These terms of use govern your use of Idevsa.com. They are written to be read, not skimmed past, so they are shorter and plainer than most.

In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the owner and operator of Idevsa.com, and “you” means anyone who visits or uses the site.

Accepting these terms

By opening any page on this site you agree to these terms of use and to our disclaimer, which form one agreement. Our privacy policy explains how we handle information and should be read alongside them.

If you do not agree with any part of them, please stop using the site. There is nothing to cancel and no account to close.

Who may use this site

Idevsa.com is written for adults and is intended for readers aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we ask that under-18s use a resource designed for their age group, ideally with a trusted adult involved.

The site is available worldwide, but our content is written mainly for readers in the United States, with notes for the UK, Canada and Australia where the systems differ. If you use the site somewhere else, you are responsible for making sure that doing so is lawful where you are, and for checking that what you read fits your local system of care and regulation.

What this site is for

Idevsa.com publishes general education about psychotherapy: how it works, the main approaches, the professions that deliver it, how to choose a therapist and what a first session involves.

It is not a clinic, a therapy service, a diagnostic tool, a referral service or a crisis line. We do not provide treatment, and using the site creates no professional relationship between us. Our disclaimer sets out those limits in full, and our crisis help page lists helplines if you need support now. If you are looking for care, the National Institute of Mental Health’s guide to finding help is a better starting point than any page of ours.

Our content and who owns it

The text, structure, headings, tables, design, layout, code and original graphics on this site belong to the operator of Idevsa.com or are used under license. As the U.S. Copyright Office explains, copyright protects original works of authorship as soon as they are fixed in a tangible form, with no registration needed for protection to exist.

Photographs are licensed stock images of models and are not ours to sublicense. Do not extract, copy or reuse them.

Facts, figures and the underlying ideas are not ours and never could be. Our wording is.

What you may do with our content

You may:

  • Read, print and save pages for your own personal, non-commercial use.
  • Share a link to any page, anywhere, without asking us.
  • Quote a short passage, with attribution to Idevsa.com and a link to the page you took it from.

Quoting a modest amount for criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research may also be fair use under U.S. law, which courts assess case by case against four statutory factors, including how much you take and what effect your use has on the market for the original. There is no set word count or percentage that is automatically safe, and copying a page wholesale is not a short quotation.

For anything beyond that, including republishing a full guide, translating one or using our text in a commercial product, write to hello@idevsaa.com. We usually say yes to reasonable requests.

What you may not do

You agree not to:

  • Copy, republish or redistribute substantial parts of the site, in any language, without written permission.
  • Scrape, crawl or harvest the site for commercial reuse, resale, or the training of commercial models or datasets.
  • Present our content as your own, or strip out attribution, links or dates.
  • Alter our text and then publish it in a way that suggests we wrote the altered version, which matters more here than elsewhere because health information changes meaning when it is edited carelessly.
  • Attempt to disrupt the site, probe it for vulnerabilities, overload it with automated requests, or interfere with anyone else’s use of it.
  • Use the site for anything unlawful, or in a way that could bring liability on us.

If you find a security problem, please report it to hello@idevsaa.com rather than testing how far it goes.

Messages you send us

When you use our contact page or email us, you keep ownership of what you write. You give us permission to read your message, store it and reply to it.

If you report a factual error or suggest an improvement, you agree that we may act on it and publish a correction without payment or credit, though we are happy to thank people who ask to be thanked. Please do not send confidential material, and please keep health details out of your message, as our privacy policy explains.

Do not send anything unlawful, abusive or infringing. We may ignore, delete or report messages that are.

We link to outside organizations so you can check our sources. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement of the organization or its services.

You may link to Idevsa.com from your own site, provided you do not frame our pages, present them as your own, or imply an association, sponsorship or endorsement that does not exist.

No warranties

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind about it, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, that faults will be corrected, that the site or its host is free of harmful components, or that the content is accurate, complete or current at the moment you read it. Health guidance, licensing rules and costs change, and pages may lag behind them.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, neither the operator of Idevsa.com nor anyone who contributes to it is liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or special loss arising from your use of the site or your reliance on anything published here. That includes decisions about treatment, money spent, care delayed or not sought, loss of data and lost opportunity.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify the operator of Idevsa.com against any claim, loss or reasonable cost arising from your misuse of the site, your breach of these terms, or your infringement of anyone else’s rights through your use of our content.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site develops. The current version always sits on this page, and the “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.

Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms. Where a change materially affects your rights, we will describe it plainly rather than slip it into a sentence.

Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from your use of the site, are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of Idevsa.com is established.

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force, and the unenforceable part is read as narrowly as needed to make it valid.

Contact us

Questions about these terms, permission requests and error reports all go to hello@idevsaa.com or through our contact page. How we research and correct what we publish is set out in our editorial policy.
